Industrial action by APEX Medical Imaging Technicians
There are two upcoming periods of national industrial action planned by APEX union Medical Imaging Technicians.
The first strike period will begin at 7am on Monday 30 September and will end at 7am on Tuesday 1 October. The second period will begin at 7am on Wednesday 2 October and end at 7am on Thursday 3 October.
Patient safety is our priority. Plans are in place to ensure that we continue to operate essential services such as emergency departments, emergency surgery, intensive care units, and maternity care throughout the strike.
What you need to know:
- There are two periods of national industrial action planned by APEX union Medical Imaging Technicians.
- The first strike period will begin at 7am on Monday 30 September and will end at 7am on Tuesday 1 October. The second period will begin at 7am on Wednesday 2 October and end at 7am on Thursday 3 October.
- During the strike period, non-essential imaging services (e.g. x-rays, CT scans, MRI scans and angiograms) will not be available.
- Ultrasound services will operate as usual so maternity and birthing services are not likely to be impacted.
- Plans are in place to ensure imaging services are available to support our emergency departments, emergency surgery, intensive care units, maternity services and other essential services.
- If you are a patient, please come to your scheduled appointment UNLESS we have contacted you directly to say their appointment is being rescheduled.
- If you need medical treatment during the strike do not delay seeking help. If it is an emergency call 111 immediately or come to our emergency departments.
We respect our Medical Imaging Technicians’ right to strike and know the decision whether to strike or whether to work is a very difficult decision to make.
A separate strike is being undertaken by APEX union sonographers from 3 October – 5 October. Information on this strike will be provided on our website later this week.
